The other day I wrote in my foodblog about the reasons I love farming. Here’s the exerpt:

Hey guys!

You’ve probably heard me talk before about Crabtree Farms in Chattanooga and my experiences there, along with some recipes I’ve made thanks to their plentiful harvest!. Well, this year I have signed up to be in their CSA, which stands for Community Supporting Agriculture. This is different from just volunteering because once a week from April til November I will receive a box of freshly grown fruits and vegetables from their farm. And you know what the greatest part is? Since I am working 5 hours a week for my box, it’s free! Some customers may choose to pay for their boxes but I am so excited to be working for my boxes instead. Here are some reasons why:

1) I have the satisfaction of knowing that I helped grow my groceries!

2) I get a work out (in the BEST environment, too!)…for free!

3) I get to breath in the FRESH AIR all year long! And receive Vitamin D, better known as the “Happy Vitamin!”

4) I get to be a kid and play outside in my “playground!”

5) I have the wonderful opportunity to get to know some of the greatest, most passionate people!

6) Did I mention I get to help grow my groceries??!!

7) I get groceries for free!

8) I get to take home and eat locally grown, ready-ripened, non-pesticide, quality fruits and vegetables!

9) I get to spend time in the most positive environment (the outdoors sure make people HAPPY!)

10) I get to teach kids about planting and tasting new vegetables they’ve never seen or tried before!

Ahhh there are so many more reasons! But all this to say that if you have the chance, TAKE PART in a local farm, even if it’s just volunteering once a month! It will seriously change your life for the better. :-)

Here are a few pictures from the Fall Festival at Crabtree Farms …

I’d like to write each week, or at least once a month about what I’ve been learning and the types of vegetables that we are receiving in our CSA box each week! :)
